~A Moment of Silence- A Camera Graveyard~

A Sunday Still of stills.

I came across this little shop of ‘Oh My’s’ while shopping. It was part of an Etsy local pop-up. They are pretty common lately in the malls and showcase local artists having a shop on Etsy. I have to admit, I was not sure how I felt seeing all these beautiful cameras repurposed into lamps up for sale.

After a night of recovery sleep and letting the shock settle in, I checked out my photos and, I guess, some otherwise would have just tossed them into the garbage, and no one would be able to enjoy the bit from the years before our digitals. Thinking that, I put a little Zen onto my moments of thought and posted them for a Sunday Still, I think after all, I do like idea of plunging into repurposing these very old classics. If they don’t work, why not? Very clever. Maybe a doorbell with a Ring security in it? 🙂

In an interesting coincidence, over New Year we rented an apartment in Newcastle upon Tyne for a week, and among the rather quirky ornaments was a camera just like these, repurposed as a lamp. I wasn’t sure how I felt about it either, as I love seeing old cameras, but I suspect many would get thrown away if not made use of in some way.

Indeed. The repurposing of these as a curiosity and a useful item isn’t so bad considering the bulk. At least the history may go on.

I understand how you felt. It does seem a bit sad to see them and yet, they are also fun. 😊

A lot of fun. I guess after thinking about it, it is a way to pass on the curiosity of history of cameras.

Hi Kathleen, welcome to Sunday Stills! If you’ve posted here before, then welcome back! These are great shots of those old cameras–such classics! In some ways, better to be lamps in their incarnations, than forgotten on a dusty shelf, or worse in the garbage! I hope you take the plunge and repurpose one–I like the Ring idea 🙂

Thanks Terri! I happen to agree with you. It gives me a huge gulp, but there seems to be no use except for shelf pieces. I have my grandfather’s and won’t use those, but I did buy one years ago and just may use that to see what I can come up with. Thanks for welcoming me!

I love old cameras! Never toss them. 👍🏻 I have al old Canon that my dad gave me a few years ago, it still shoots fine and is in mint condition and has it’s own bag.

Yes! Me too John. It was hard to see this but again, we might as well give way to new repurposing when they don’t work. I can’t however…
