I have a very relaxing time doing ICM and I love the whole shebang … camera, set up and then seeing the results. After pondering hosting an ICM photo challenge here, I have decided to do so with some feedback from you. Thank you for that.
So, what is ICM. In short it is In Camera Movement. Many have made a life’s work from just shooting ICM photos and many are so very beautiful. I love the blur of things as you have guessed by now. But this will be a simple challenge for all.

Rules. First, and foremost and just about the only “rule” is absolutely no post edits to make the movement happen. I know the software is out there but for the sake of the challenge the camera is the work horse for this challenge – just use your talent.
You can use any camera including a cell phone.
Any lens can be used as long as you move that camera to take the shot.
You can use Lightroom/Photoshop or any other software to crop, color or enhance your shot but again, no movement.
The movement has to be made In Camera which what this challenge is all about. Make it your creation.
Theme. Nope we don’t have one. Don’t be limited – just use your creativity. There is no limit to how many photos you want to post. I normally limit myself to 5 just because I go crazy trying to figure out which one, I like best. It is all your choice. We are doing the easy peasy challenge.
Pingbacks. Yes, we need those too. Let’s use the tag ICMPC. That is short for In Camera Movement Photo Challenge.
1. Insert the tag ICMPC on your blog post so that everyone can check the Reader easily on Jet Pak otherwise no one can find you. The tag is important.
2. Post a link to your ICMPC blog post into the comment section of my ICMPC monthly post.
3. Pingbacks and trackbacks. I find the easiest way to do this is at the end of your blog post. Just simply type ICMPC and link it to my post. It should automatically trace your blog to the Reader and should pop up in my comments as long as you post my link in your blog. Otherwise, I will not see your post unless you comment on my post.
I know this sounds a bit techy, but it really isn’t, and it is very easy.
Dates & Time. Since this is a once a month challenge the middle of the month gives us time to take the shot, edit, blog, upload, etc. Therefore, we start February 15, 2024. That will be our very first. I also post at 12:01 a.m. Pacific time. That has been a time I have used for years, and it seems to work for everyone’s time zone.
There is no rush or hurry. This isn’t a competition. It is just fun exploring the use of the camera and if you forget something … no worries.
I won’t be doing a summary of posts - yet. I would like to see how many joins in first. It will also keep me from giving a cut-off date so I can write one in time for the next. I think it works best this way for now.
Ok, so here are the monthly dates:
- January – NONE
- February 15, 2024
- March 14, 2024
- April 18, 2024
- May 16, 2024
- June 13, 2024

- August 15, 2024
- September 19, 2024
- October 17, 2024
- November 14, 2024

If I have forgotten anything just comment and let me know. This is the first challenge for Tales, and I might have forgotten to post something important.
There is a spot in the menu for ICMPC for quick reference to the challenge. I can’t wait to see what you come up.

Sounds like fun. I might give ICM a try. 😊
these are beautiful ICM shots!
I am glad you like them. Thank you.
I won’t be able to join in these challenges unfortunately, but I look forward to seeing more ICMs.
Excellent challenge, Kathleen. This should be fun!
I hope you will be joining us when you can Egidio 🙂
I like the monthly format. It’s easier to work it in. I’m planning on posting one in February. I love ICM and its unexpected results.
I’m looking forward to seeing yours!
