Flowers are my favorite subjects to photograph up front and close. With a little cropping and playing around in post, I get the creative aspect of a shot to go just a little further than shooting in-camera (although that is my fave). It is nice to explore the wild side of post edit sometimes. Here is a geranium that I shot playing with the Canon R5 just before I cut it back. It isn’t anything too interesting and as scrawny as it is in the norm, it got its wild side to show in post edit processing.

After cropping and playing with the contrast settings, highlights, etc. this happened. It is always surprising to see where the photo will go while playing around.

Sometimes there is a point of no return and a couple of hours will have passed without realizing time has gone so fast. This day I just had about an hour during my teatime. People will be coming in later, so I needed to get my mojo out beforehand, because of that, I stayed on it a bit more…

The more I played with bits and pieces of the photo it became a tad moody. Something, I like when crafting a photograph this way. I seem to always go to the dark side or the very light side of the photo, not much in between when purposely playing this way. I figure if I am going to creative edit in-post I might as well take the photo farther. Hence, the black and whites below remind me of those 30’s and 40’s photos and movies I used to love. That’s probably where I got it no doubt.

Now, the below photo happened in the brush section of Lightroom, and yes, I do not remember how it was done but when I have time, I intend to take a look and check out the ‘History’ portion of it. I like that little button of info. It really helps to get back those accidental lost bits of info. I hopefully can make another preset off of it. I have a few I have made that way and when doing this sort of thing it is fun to work from those saved.

I do like the last one best. Since Halloween is coming up next month, this reminded me of decorating to the theme of the moody season.
